About Pat...

Pat is no more. She passed in her sleep at 3:05 AM on Sunday, September 28, 2014.

We will remember her many interests and facets: her witty conversation and laughter; her love for her children and her cats. We will recall her delight in nature, design, color, line and negative space; her fascination with film, theatre and dance, as well as her kindness and generosity with her time, talent and spirit.

Pat was a great mother, a good friend, a  disciplined leader and a diligent supporter: she always did her research and preparation for every endeavor attempted. Whether it was her conscientious attention to a free-lance calligraphy assignment, a political cause, or a Society for Calligraphy event, she was ready to do the patient spadework or assume control as needed. With professional artistic endeavors, as with raising a family, she was attentive and engaged, always persevering until the job, or the homework, or the school lunches were done. And she did nothing by halves: Pat was always fully committed to completion, usually succeeding far beyond the expectations of others.

Pat's fine calligraphy hand and disciplined creative influence continues in the letterforms of her many students, and in the calligraphy she herself created, which is preserved in private collections of major calligraphy collectors, as well as on the walls of thousands of recipients of her work, commissioned and bestowed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, or one of her other many clients: from heads of state, to nursing school graduates (go to this gallery page to see some of her pieces).
